A jack of all trades, Bre-Z (pronounced breezy), is a multifaceted budding young actress and rapper, who has quickly been making a name for herself among the ranks of emerging artist to watch out for.
Hailing from Philadelphia by way of Wilimington, Delaware, as an actress, Bre-Z is best known for her breakout role as Freda Gatz (Chris Rock’s daughter) in Lee Daniels’ TV series Empire. She has received praise for her recent portrayal as Ricky Bell’s sister, Peanut Bell, in BETs’ New Edition mini-series—and has even been called upon to pen music for some of today’s biggest artist.
With more film projects set to release later this year—acting for Bre-Z is something the universe seemed to align after receiving a fateful call to audition for Leah Daniels. As for the music, Bre-Z knew long before her days of working as a highly skilled celebrity barber for artist such as Akon and Ludacris, that the music was her calling.
Hip Hop Weekly got a chance to catch up with the insightful young emcee during the South By South West (SXSW) music & film festival in Austin, Texas to talk about her blossoming acting credits, and her career as an veritable music artist.
